UK Seeks Custom Duty Cut On Electric Vehicles Amid Discussion With India
The UK is pushing for a cut in customs duty on electric vehicles in the ongoing negotiations for signing a free-trade deal with India, a senior official confirmed. At present there is a customs duty of 60 per cent on imported cars priced below $40,000 while it is 100% on those priced above this point. The UK has suddenly brought in the new proposal on electric vehicles, uneasy for India.

Reliance Industry Unveils Battery Storage Technology For EVs At An Event
Reliance Industry's owner Mukesh Ambani is venturing into EV business and launched swappable and multipurpose battery storage technology for Electric Vehicles (EVs.) The new product was launched during "Battery Show" in Greater Noida. The new product launch is expected to be good in the EV market, which is expected to be of ₹49,000 crore business. Furthermore, this new product of Ambani's will be $10 billion clean energy push.

Tesla Coming To India, Representatives Likely To Meet Indian Officials
World's largest automobile company, owned by Elon Musk Tesla is making plans to hold a crucial meeting in India. As per sources, the company is scheduled to meet Indian government officials in Delhi and discuss to source materials for electric vehicles in India. Usually, the components for the electric vehicles of Tesla are taken from China, however, the plans look different this time. However, no official announcement has been made.

Maruti Suzuki To Borrow EV Technology From Toyota For Electric Cars
Maruti Suzuki will collaborate with Toyota to build six small electric cars, said the Japanese automobile company. The shift in focus was aimed at the ambition of Maruti to build small electric cars for the Indian market. Sources revealed that Suzuki will borrow EV technology from Toyota Motors for building its electric car, which will be launched this decade. Notably, Toyota has a 5% stake in Maruti Suzuki company.

Magna International To Set Engineering Centre In Bengaluru, To Invest USD 120
Magna International is all set to invest USD 120 million (approx. 980 crores) in India, for a new engineering centre in Brigade Tech Garde, Bengaluru. As per sources, the decision was taken after witnessing a massive demand for electric vehicles and the electrification of vehicles in India. Moreover, 1,000 engineers and technical experts by the end of 2023, for operations.

Electric Vehicle Explodes In Vasai; 7 Year Old Child Dies: Maharashtra
In the latest incident involving electric scooters, a seven-year-old child died when the battery of an electric scooter exploded after overnight charging in Vasai, Maharashtra. The police confirmed the deceased case and were identified as Shabbir Ansari. As per sources, the incident happened on September 23, however, came to light on October 2.

Punjab Govt Approves Draft Of Electric Vehicles Policy
AAP-led Punjab Government recently approved to draft Electric Vehicle (EV) policy in the State. CM Bhagwant Mann gave a nod to draft the new EV policy, with an aim to promote electric vehicles in the Punjab region. The new policy will aim to reduce carbon emissions. Furthermore, the major thrust of the new policy will be in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amristar, Patiala and Bhatinda.

California Becomes 1st US State In World To Outlaw Use Of Petrol Cars, Effective From 2026
Officials in California have adopted a first-of-its-kind rule that would ban the sale of new gas-powered automobiles by 2035. The regulations would not apply to used automobiles, enabling them to remain on the road. The rules will not be effective immediately, but rather in 2026. However, the Biden administration must still approve the decision before it can go into effect.

Delhi Govt Grants Electric Vehicle Subsidies Worth Rs 100 Crore: Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot stated providing discounts to buyers of electric vehicles beyond a certain point is not "very healthy," on August 22. He also stated that the government has set an aim of one charging point every three kilometers. Under its Electric Vehicle Policy, which was established in 2020, Delhi government has already granted incentives of about Rs 100 crore on electric vehicles, the most of any state.
